Best Dressed at the 2014 BAFTA Awards

The 2014 BAFTA ceremony took place in London last Sunday. It’s the last major film award ceremony before the Oscars which take place next month.  This means there was a red carpet and I had my eyes on it. The actors defied the cold February weather to display some of the best fashion around. Many dresses and tuxes to pick from but I’m not going to bore you with a long list and I’ll stick to five ladies and five men. Noteworthy is the return of the deep blue tux this red carpet season.

The Women

Cate Blanchett is undeniably beautiful and looks good in almost anything. This black Alexander McQueen fits exceptionally well and the bold florals don't take away from the beauty of the dress. The length is also perfect.

Her first red carpet season and Lupita Nyong'o has been stellar. Going with promary colours has been good for here and this green Dior Couture gown fits her frame quite well. The matching accessories are also well done.

Haven't quite seen anything else like this on the red carpet this season and yes there is a fair share of leg and cleavage on display, but it's not poorly done in this red and black (can't go wrong) Gucci dress.

Not sure whether this is meant to be a tuxedo or a suit, but judging by what I can make out to be a cummerbund, I'd say it's a suit. The orange and sparkly metallic doesn't put me off and I think this risk paid off for Ruth Wilson in this Antonio Berardi piece.
The most risky item on this list. The orange and sparkly metallic doesn’t put me off and I think this risk paid off for Ruth Wilson in this Antonio Berardi piece. Also a nod for not including any neck-ware and overdoing this outfit.
Statuesque. That's all I need to say. Uma Thurman keeps it simple with both the Atelier Versace dress and jewelry. Like her Australian contemporary on this list, she gets the length right.

The Men

Deep blues have made a comeback on the red carpet. Chiwetel Ejiofor gets everything right with this Mr Start tux. Matched lapel with tie width, correct amount of cuff shown and perfect patent shoes.

Don't have a name on the designer, but to see a winged tip shirt has become a rare sight. Well done Daniel Bruhl. Everything everything else couldn't be done any better.

Not an actor, but a man that looks good anywhere in anything, I present David Gandy. Want to wear a three piece like a boss? Look no further. For those who aren't familiar with him, you might recognise him from this.

Whether going for a necktie or a bow tie, always match your collar and tie width. Eddie Redmayne does just that in this almost too-clean-cut Gucci tux.

A fan of his music, but not of his slipper and tux obsession. I have to say it's growing on me. A previous recipient of GQ's Most Stylish Man of the Year award, Tinie Tempah always brings something different and fun to the red carpet. Here's an example in this velvet Burberry tux.

Honourable Mention

I didn’t want to make this list longer than ten, but when you look this good as a couple, you have to be included. In a sort of his-and-hers version of the tuxedo, Brangelina (can’t believe I actually used that; forgive me) turn heads.

The little brother tagging along on my sister's blog. You won't see to many posts from me as I have a serious case of procrastination. It is something I'm working on fixing. Like a lot of things and can talk about most things, so I'm sort of a mixed bag.
